On April 22, 2026, a group called “Montreal4Palestine,” which asserts that it is “fighting for the total liberation of Palestine through awareness and education,” organized a counter-protest outside the Israeli Consulate in Montreal. This event was held in opposition to a pro-Israel rally celebrating Israel’s Independence Day, which the protesting group described as “78 years of occupation.”
Protesters placed the Israeli flag on the sidewalk, stomped on it, used it as a platform for delivering speeches, and later burned it. They displayed three effigies representing U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, hanging them from poles by the neck.
The protesters chanted:
