Political Defence Committee Statement
The #StandWithJarrar Political Defence Committee fiercely rejects the racist framing of “terrorism” and any Zionist attacks wielded against Jarrar. We express our sincerest solidarities with Jarrar and his family at this time of intensified imperialist repression and call on all people of conscience to unconditionally support him!
The #StandWithJarrar Political Defence Committee is an independent political defence committee made up of representatives from Palestine solidarity organizations across so-called Canada working together to combat Zionist and state attacks against Jarrar and the movement. We are committed to supporting Jarrar and ending the use of terrorism charges and designations against the Palestinian liberation movement. When “Canada” sets a new precedent for attacking our movement, we will also set a precedent in defending it.
Resist Imperialist Repression!
The charge to “Participate in or Contribute to Activities of a Terrorist Group (Hamas)” being used against Jarrar is based exclusively on statements he allegedly made at Palestine solidarity demonstrations in 2024. This is the first time an activist has faced “terrorism” charges for speech in Canada. Though Jarrar’s case may be unprecedented, it is absolutely part of a broader pattern of escalated repression against the Palestinian struggle.
The very first “terrorist” designations in the U.S. were of Palestinian resistance organizations. Decades later, we see this War on Terror policy boomerang back into the imperial core to be used domestically such as with the incarceration of PalestineAction members, the “terrorist” designations of Samidoun, the SOAS 2, the arrest and attempted extradition of Fergie Chambers, and many more cases around the world.
Drop the “Terrorist” Label!
Jarrar’s arrest comes just days after Canada’s participation in U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s conference on “far-left political terrorism” where it was announced that more and more “terrorist” designations and charges will be laid. This is a declaration of war against all people who choose to defend Palestine and its glorious struggle for self-determination. Imperialist states, like Canada, will continue acting as the lapdog of U.S. empire and wield the “terrorist” label against those who dare to speak out against Zionist colonialism and imperialist genocide.
The continued use of the “terrorist” label to vilify, arrest, charge, and proscribe has rendered the term utterly meaningless. We encourage comrades to drop the “terrorist” label altogether and divest from what Western imperialist regimes have sought to make it out to be. We also caution against allowing the state’s use of the “terrorist” label to lead to abandoning our comrade out of fear. We must remain committed to loudly standing in solidarity with Jarrar and combatting any and all attempts to fear-monger us into isolating him.
This will certainly not be the last time imperialist state repression attacks one of us in their weak efforts to crush a popular cradle in support of the noble Palestinian Resistance. Now more than ever is it urgent to remain steadfast, not make moves to innocence, and #StandWithJarrar unconditionally.

On July 22, 2026, CBC News reported:
A 33-year-old Toronto man is facing a terrorism charge for “public statements that advocated for the detestation and harm against members of the Israeli and Jewish communities,” police say.
Ahmad Hassan Hajahmad attended pro-Palestinian rallies in the Bay Street and Front Street W. area on May 25 and Sept. 7, 2024, where he used “amplification devices” to make the statements, Toronto police said in a news release Wednesday.
Investigators carried out a search warrant at a Toronto home on March 7, 2025.
Toronto police’s hate crimes unit and a multi-agency Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) led by the RCMP later collected evidence suggesting Hajahmad “acted for the benefit of, and in association with, Hamas, a designated terrorist group,” the news release says.
Hajahmad, who police say also went by the name Ahmad Jarrar, has been charged with participating or contributing to activities of a terrorist group, police say.
The charge comes after the attorney general of Ontario and the federal government provided consent to proceed with the charges on July 10, the news release says.
Hajahmad appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice Tuesday. Police say they are unable to provide any further information due to a court-imposed publication ban related to the investigation.
Mohamed El Rashidy, defence lawyer for the accused, said his client is presumed innocent and has no connection to Hamas or any other foreign group.
“He faces a single charge arising from speaking at public demonstrations. No violence, no weapon, no one harmed. Speaking out at a protest about the killing of civilians is protected expression, not terrorism,” El Rashidy said.
“The police told the media he ‘advocated for detestation and harm’ but he is not charged with that. We’ll be looking closely at how and why this case came to be, and we’re confident it won’t hold up when measured against the law.”
