In April 2020 York Regional Police published its Statistical Report 2019 that includes the hate crime occurrences. Here is an excerpt from the report:
Reported Hate Crime occurrences in York Region increased to 133 incidents or by 8.1% in 2018 from 123 incidents in 2018. The principle motivation factors for reported hate crime were religion (42.9%), race/ethnicity (42.1%) and sexual orientation (12.8%). When race/ethnicity was the principle motivation factor, the Black (55.4%), East & Southeast Asian (14.3%), South Asian (8.9%), Multiple Races/Ethnicities (8.9%), Arab/West Asian (7.1%) and White (5.4%) communities were the most frequent victims. When religion was the principle motivation factor, the Jewish (70.2%), Muslim (19.3%) and other religion (10.5%) communities were the most frequent victims.
