The Palestinian Youth Movement (“PYM”) is a “grassroots movement of young Palestinians in Palestine and in exile worldwide” that plays “an active role as a young generation in our national struggle for the liberation” of Palestine and the Palestinian people.

According to PYM, the movement “is a space that brings together Palestinian youth from all over the U.S and Canada with diverse views and various political, cultural and social backgrounds in a collective process of decision making, leadership building, and action.”

PYM is also “initiating grassroots, community-based organizing on the ground, particularly addressing the context and needs of the different Arab/Palestinian communities we live in while maintaining PYM’s Return and Liberation framework of struggle.”

In recent years, PYM has become the leading force organizing rallies and demonstrations in Canada and the U.S. in support of the Palestinian people and its “resistance” armed groups, some of which are designated by both countries as terrorist entities.

On October 7-9, 2023, PYM posted on Facebook statements glorifying and celebrating the attack launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement – Hamas and the Islamic Jihad on Israel in which approximately 1,400 were killed, more than 240 abducted to Gaza and atrocities were committed including mass murder of families and party-goers, burning people alive, beheadings, brutal gang-rape and torture.

PALESTINE LIVES! THE RESISTANCE LIVES! In the past several hours, the resistance in Gaza stormed the illegitimate border fence, reentering 1948 Palestine for the first time in many of our lives. The days of our fedayeen [fighters] advancing into occupied territory beyond the 1967 borders have returned. With these developments come new equations in the Palestinian struggle, and a shifting of the ground beneath our feet, the reverberations of which we can only begin to imagine. Gaza, the cradle of our resistance and the lifeblood of our struggle, is pushing us closer to the hour of liberation than ever before. The hours and days ahead will make the shape and ramifications of these developments come into clearer focus. In the meantime, we continue to stand alongside our people in Gaza and across Occupied Palestine in their legitimate resistance against the occupiers. In our Martyrs’ names, the struggle for liberation and return continues. Palestine will be free.

An unprecedented series of events has taken place by our heroic resistance in Gaza – with over 60 Zionist hostages captured, the fall of settlements surrounding Gaza, and the prison break which destroyed the fence that has been entrapping Gazans for over 17 years. We call on our people in the far diaspora in Southern California to uplift our resistance and our martyrs. Join us tonight, Sat. In the wake of an unprecedented assault on our right to free speech and assembly, we ask our community to follow us on our backup account, @palyouthmvmt in the event that our account is suspended as it was in 2021 during the Unity Uprisings. Actions for Toronto, Southern California, and any other flyers that have been or will be taken down due to mass reporting by zionist accounts, are in fact scheduled to continue taking place at the time and place specified. For a full list of rallies planned, see the pinned thread at our Twitter account @palyouthmvmt and scroll down to find your city. We will not be silenced, and we will not allow intimidation by zionists to scare us into submission. Our fight is a legitimate struggle, a national struggle for the liberation of our home and the right of return to that land which is rightfully ours. Stay tuned on both this account and @palyouthmvmt for further updates.

In the last several days, we have witnessed the active decolonization of Palestinian land led by the Palestinian resistance. On October 7th, Gaza broke free. Palestinians in Gaza crossed the illegitimate border fence and reentered 1948 lands for the first time in many of our lifetimes. Since that time, we have witnessed resistance efforts and protests spread to all of historic Palestine, including the West Bank. Netanyahu warned of a “long, difficult war” and of possible preparations for a ground offensive against Gaza, which the occupation has long avoided given its knowledge of our people’s bravery in confronting the occupation face to face. The events of the last 48 hours are in response to decades of brutal colonization and occupation, and more recently, in response to the desecration of Al-Aqsa mosque — leading to the terming of these significant events as the “Al-Aqsa flood.” This is a historic, unprecedented moment for the Palestinian people. For the first time since 1948, the zionist state has lost control of its occupied territories. The Israeli intelligence’s failure to detect these plans in advance and the military’s inability to crush the resistance quickly is shattering the notion of the occupation’s invincibility. At least 500 Palestinians have been killed so far by Israeli air strikes on Gaza. We know that Gaza will only continue to face Zionist retaliation in an attempt to stifle our people’s resistance. Our hearts are all in Gaza with the bravest of our people, who continue to rise undeterred by the terror in the sky above them. No show of force or savagery from this Entity in its response will break our resolve. We have a right to resist on our own land. May the memory of our martyrs continue to guide us on the steadfast path to liberation.

On October 9, 2023, thousands of Muslims, Arabs and pro-Palestinian activists participated in a rally organized by the Palestine Youth Movement (PYM) in support of the “heroic resistance in Gaza.”

A day earlier, the Palestine Youth Movement issued the following statement:

🚨TORONTO: ALL OUT FOR PALESTINE🚨JOIN US, MONDAY, OCTOBER 9TH AT 2PM. An unprecedented series of events has taken place by our heroic resistance in Gaza – with over 30 Zionist hostages captured, the fall of settlements surrounding Gaza, and the prison break that destroyed the fence that has been entrapping Gazans for over 17 years. The resistance’s offensive attack has shaped a new precedent for our national liberation struggle and we remain steadfast in our right to resist by any means necessary. We call on our people in the far diaspora in Toronto to uplift and honour our resistance and our martyrs. Join us this Monday, October 9 at 2 pm at Nathan Phillips Square and celebrate our steps closer to liberation! 🗓️ Oct 9, 2pm 📍Nathan Phillips Square

A speaker representing the Palestine Youth Movement said during the rally:

We are here today in Toronto, representing the Palestinian Youth Movement [PYM] in a truly historic time in our struggle. On Saturday, October 7, we witnessed the act of decolonization of Palestinian land. Allah Akbar. The Palestinians in Gaza crossed through the illegitimate border fence and re-entred occupied 48′ lands.

We are here today not to attack the Jewish community but to say Allah Akbar [Allah is the Greatest] and the declaration of our celebration for [unintelligible] resistance and its victory against the occupier. [unintelligible] Praise Allah. Allah Akbar [Allah is the Greatest].

We are here today to celebrate the resistance and its victory over the occupier that stole their land. Make some noise for the Palestinian resistance. Make some noise for our brave people that are fighting against the oppressors and going to continue to decolonize their stolen land.

The official Hamas flag was flown in the rally. The participants chanted:

From the river to the sea Palestine will be free

Gaza, Steadfast, steadfast. The lions have emerged from you (originally in Arabic)

Hail the martyr and walk hand in hand (originally in Arabic)

Intifada, Intifada, long live the Intifada
