The annual Al-Quds Day rally was held in front of the American Consulate in Toronto on April 15, 2023.

[Moe] Jaberi, whose family is from Gaza, is the founder of @toronto4palestine, formerly GPM (GTA Palestinian Movement @GPM.21), a coalition of Canadian Palestinian organizations.

Here is Moe Jaberi’s speech at Al-Quds Day:

First of all assalamu alaikum [peace be upon you]. Amazing speech [of Yara Shoufani]. We’re proud of you. We’re proud of PYM [Palestinian Youth Movement]. So, everyone give it up to Yara [Shoufani] and PYM [Palestinian Youth Movement].

My eyes can describe the beauty of our Palestinian flag flapping around. The flag that united all of us. 75 years of apartheid, persecution, oppression, ethnic cleansing and genocide. 75 years of Zionist settler colonialism. Here we are steadfast. Here we are still exist and we will continue to resist until we achieve our ultimate liberation.

My name is [Moe] Jaberi, and I represent Toronto4Palestine. You can find us on social media for @Toronto4Palestine. I would like to thank the organizers for the warm welcome. That was perfect introduction, but he [master of ceremonies] forgot one thing. You forgot to mention that I am an ordinary person, and most of you are probably better than me.

I just can’t remain calm and silent. Why my people are brutally attacked with stunned grenade, and rubber coated bullets inside Al-Aqsa mosque during Ramadan the holiest month of the year, year after year, for years? I also can can remain calm and silent while most of us express racism, anti-palestinian racism at our schools, work, online and mainstream media outlets.

You might wonder how we experience anti-Palestinian racism. Anti-palestinian racism includes denying the nakba in 1948, culture appropriation, the spoiling of Palestinian land, and justifying violence against Palestinians and their allies. We are experiencing anti-palestinian racism in the 21st century, in an era of what Justin Trudeau calls it, the era of inclusion, diversity and equity. The Canadian and American governments are guilty of it, and we have to fight it together.

The people united will never be defeated. I can’t hear you. One big loud voice everyone. The people united will never be defeated. Our leaders are finally uniting, a human unity appointing justice. We’re uniting despite the difference in ethnicity religious beliefs or backgrounds. We’re וnited for a free Palestine, uniting for ultimate liberation from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea under one Palestinian state from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea under one Palestinian state.

Praising and supporting the resistance in the occupied land and West Bank is legal. I’m going to repeat that. Praising and supporting the resistance in the occupied land and West Bank is legal by international law according to U.N General Assembly.

To quote United Nations General Assembly resolution ARES 3324 November 29, 1978, and I quote: reaffirms the legitimacy of the struggle of peoples for Independence territorial integrity, national unity and liberation from colonial and foreign domination and foreign occupation by all available means, particularly armed struggles.

This justification for legitimate armed resistance has been specifically applied to the Palestinian struggle repeatedly. And I quote another resolution RES 3246 of the same day November 1974: and we affirm the legitimacy of the people’s struggle for liberation from colonial and foreign domination and alien subjugation by all available means including armed struggle; strongly condemns all governments which do not recognize the right to self-determination and its independence of peoples under colonial or foreign domination and alien subjugation notably the peoples of Africa and Palestinian people.

Free free [crowd: Palestine]. free free [crowd: Palestine]. Free free [crowd: Palestine]. Free free [crowd: Palestine]. Louder. Free free [crowd: Palestine]. Free free [crowd: Palestine].

I want you all to stand up speak up wear our cultural identity with pride. Wear a Palestinian clothes and merchandise. Resist in any form possible, and utilize your talents, was it by art, poetry, social media, public speaking, or even donating. Speak to your employer union groups, and school boards, about including policies and educational materials about Palestine and Palestinians.

We have had a few incidents where Palestinian and pro-palestinian students speaking about anti-Palestinian racism. I’m not going to get into details about [it], because I know my other fellow comrades are going to be going in details about that. I want everyone to start at home with educating your families and educating your friends co-workers at work.
