Suspected hate-motivated vandalism to a vehicle in the City of Vaughan Photo: York Region Police

On January 10, 2024, York Regional Police issued the following press release:

Members of York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking at least three suspects after an act of suspected hate-motivated vandalism to a vehicle in the City of Vaughan.

On January 9, 2024, York Regional Police were notified about damage to a vehicle parked at a residence in the southwest area of Glen Shields Avenue and Dufferin Street. Officers learned that shortly after 3 a.m., at least three suspects in a dark-coloured Jeep Grand Cherokee drove through the neighbourhood before they parked in front of the victim’s house. Two male suspects got out of the passenger side, both wearing masks and gloves, while a third suspect remained in the Jeep as its driver. The suspects went to the victim’s vehicle, which was adorned with decals of the Israeli flag, and they used a tool to shatter the vehicle’s windows. The suspects then returned to the Jeep and drove away.

Video of the crime has been obtained and investigators are releasing it to the public in the hope that someone can provide information regarding the suspects.

Driven by a third, unseen suspect

The Hate Crime Prevention Unit has been notified and a hate crime investigator is on the case.

Anyone who has information about this crime, or anyone with video recordings from the area around the time of the incident, is urged to contact police.
