On January 09, 2024, York Regional Police issued the following press release:

Members of York Regional Police #4 District Uniform Patrol and the Criminal Investigations Bureau, with assistance from the Hate Crime Prevention Unit, have charged a man after a suspected hate-motivated assault in the City of Vaughan.

On Saturday, January 6, 2024, at about 1:45 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a report of a suspected hate-motivated assault committed by a male suspect against four adults who identify as Jewish. The victims reported they were walking home from a synagogue in the area of Bathurst Street and Flamingo Road when they were approached by the suspect on an electric bicycle. The victims felt intimidated by the manner in which the suspect operated the bike in their presence. An argument ensued, during which the suspect spat at the victims and made anti-Semitic comments before he rode away.

Through investigation, a suspect was identified and he was arrested a few hours later that same day. Police have charged Kenneth Jeewan GOBIN, 34, of Vaughan, with two counts of Assault and one count of Breach of Probation.
