On January 30, 2020 the Palestinian Canadian Community Centre (Palestine House) in Mississauga, Onatrio issued the following statement:
Emergency Rally against Trump’s “Deal of the Century” in front of the US Consulate in TORONTO Toronto. Ontario. Canada — February I, 2020 — the Palestinian Canadian Community Centre – Palestine House has called for an Emergency Rally on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Trump’s “Deal of the Century.”
We stand together and call on an supporters of human rights to voice their opposition to the Trump administration’s unveiling of the details of its Middle East “peace” plan.
We call on our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to reject Trump’s plan and pressure the Israeli government to abide by its obligations under international law. We call on leaders of all major Canadian political parties, particularly NDP leader Jagmeet Singh — as the leader of Canada’s progressive party to do the same.
Trump’s plan includes, but is not limited to:
Giving legitimacy to illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine
Annexing large parts of the West Bank (including the Jordan Valley)
Granting Palestinians a “state made of non-contiguous cantons similar to the Bantustans under apartheid in South Africa.
This so-called Deal of the Century is an imposition of what previous Israeli administrations could not get Palestinians to accept. It is an attempt to force Palestinians to surrender their rights to Israeli domination. It is a declaration of apartheid.
The road to peace lies first and foremost in addressing Israel’s military occupation and settler-colonialism, in dismantling illegal Israeli settlements, resolving the status of Jerusalem, and recognizing the right for return for Palestinian refugees.
Only consistent pressure on Israel by Canada and the international community can bring about lasting and meaningful change for both Israelis and Palestinians.
