On Saturday, July 4, 2020 “Mississauga Protest for Palestine” was held at Celebration Square in Mississauga, Ontario.
The organizer “Sauga for Palestine” was recently created by “a group of students who are passionate about Palestine and want their voices heard” and to show their “support for Palestine & make a statement against Israel & it’s illegal practices.” CD4HR’s Firas Al-Najim participated in the protest. Protesters waved Palestinian and red Socialist Action flags, no Canadian flags were present.
Here is Sauga for Palestine’s statement on the protest:
MISSISSAUGA WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AGAINST INJUSTICE! On July 1, Israel plans to destroy/annex Palestinian homes in the West Bank and large swaths of the Jordan Valley, consuming the remaining areas under Palestinian control and causing even more Palestinians to become refugees. This is the largest stage of the ongoing Nabka and the most aggressive plan to steal Palestinian land and expand ILLEGAL israeli settlements. As Canadians, we need to condemn this illegal annexation and condemn Trudeau’s support of Israel, as well as show our support for Palestine and demand justice for it’s people. Palestinian or not, this is a human rights issue, and we all need to come together to stand against it.
Here is a poem read by one of the students:
On the borders of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip bullets released
This time an innocent man falls, the rest feeling unease
We know the problem of discrimination, something that had destroyed this nation
Just really get thinking about all the loss isn’t the greatest invitation
They say annexation, annexation, for once let’s just have a civil conversation
From the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea Palestine will be free
Wishing we could refrain from fighting again
To many people thought the war of 1967 will be the end
But yet they are still armed, still causing harm
Why isn’t the world more alarmed?
Persecution was the start of the situation
Who are they to take away this nation?
After all isn’t it His creation?
Stop the occupation!
From the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea Palestine will be free
Amending for all this loss, about knives guns and bombs
Bones start flying, bodies multiplying, children crying, all terrifying
But Palestine is undying
From the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea Palestine will be free
Lest we forget those who are lost
They remain deep in our hearts
For this country keep them from being apart, united as one
The places are thrown. It is their home, Palestine, let them be
From the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea Palestine will be free
From the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea Palestine will be free
