Canada De-list IRGC Qods Force & Hizballah from Terrorist list

Canadian Defenders for Human Rights (CD4HR) is calling on the Canadian government and intelligence services to review the placement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force and Hizballah on Public Safety Canada’s (PSC) list of terrorist entities. CD4HR also condemns the unlawful assassinations of Qasem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Muhandis, and their companions.

Hizballah: Hizballah is a popular Lebanese political party and a fundamental component of Lebanon’s democratic process. Hizballah has thirteen official members in Lebanon’s parliament and is also allied with Lebanon’s largest political party – the Free Patriotic Movement – which has twenty-four members of parliament. Hizballah’s alliance with the Free Patriotic Movement, a Christian party, is emblematic of its non-partisan nature and commitment to Lebanon’s secular character. With the popular support of the Lebanese population, Hizballah maintains an ongoing armed resistance, and deterrent force, against continued Zionist-Israeli aggressions against Lebanon and Lebanese sovereignty. Hizballah endeared themselves to the Lebanese public over its long struggle to end the Israeli occupation of South Lebanon, an occupation which lasted from 1982-2000. Ultimately, the Israeli occupation was demolished by the noble efforts of Hizballah’s armed wing and the steadfastness of the Lebanese public. Hizballah also coordinated military operations with the Lebanese Armed Forces during the Syrian conflict which at times spilled over the border into Lebanese territories. It was this coordination between Hizballah and the Lebanese Armed Forces which led to terrorists like Al-Nusra and ISIS being expelled from Lebanese territories. In consideration of Hizballah’s extensive integration into Lebanese society and Lebanon’s democratic process, as well as the widespread and non-partisan support it enjoys in Lebanon, it is imperative that the Canadian government reviews Hizballah’s current listing as a terrorist entity. https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/ntnl-scrt/cntr-trrrsm/lstd-ntts/crrnt-lstd-ntts-en.aspx#30

The IRGC Qods Force: The IRGC is a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, and the Qods Force is a wing of the organization. The Qods Force played a central role in combating Daesh aka ISIS and depleting their capacity to export terror globally. As the commander of the Qods Force, Qasem Soleimani was the main engineer of the collaborative and transnational effort which led to the dismantlement of Daesh in the region. The IRGC Qods Force has never threatened or been a threat to Canada’s security. General Qasem Soleimani was a beloved, honourable, educated, and brave leader of the effort that secured and expelled terrorist groups from countries like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and blockaded Gaza. Him and his organization led the effort that brought countries like Iraq and Russia together for the common purpose of defeating the abominable Daesh. It is on this basis that the Canadian government must consider de-listing this organization from PSC’s List of Terrorist Entities. https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/ntnl-scrt/cntr-trrrsm/lstd-ntts/crrnt-lstd-ntts-en.aspx#35

The Illegal Assassination of Qasem Soleimani

The shocking and unlawful assassination of IRGC Qods Force Commander Qasem Soleimani inside Iraq transgressed international law, United States law, and Iraqi law. The relevant law in the UN Charter allows for a state to act in self-defence “if an armed attack occurs.” As noted by the recent comments made by US Senators like Rand Paul and Mike Lee, the Trump administration has failed to provide any information “outlining the legal, factual and moral justification for the attack.” It is evident that there was no proof of any imminent attack on American embassies or regional interests. As well, contrary to US law, President Trump failed to seek approval from congress to launch this illegal assassination. Furthermore, the US breached an agreement with the Iraqi government by not requesting permission to conduct this unlawful strike on Iraqi soil. This blatant violation and disregard for Iraqi sovereignty has recently resulted in Iraqi MPs passing a non-binding resolution calling for the complete withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. Indeed, the Iraqi government has called this American action “a brazen violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.”

Qods is an Arabic word that stand for Jerusalem. The main focus of the Qods Force is to help the oppressed peoples and organizations that are living under the Israeli Zionist occupation, under blockade, and facing daily threats to their security and well-being. Ultimately, the purpose of the Qods Force is to accelerate the dismantlement of the Zionist regime that is terrorizing Palestinians and occupying Holy Jerusalem. The Zionist lobbies in Canada – and the politicians that have aligned themselves with these lobbies – have worked hard to defame, lobby, and put pressure on various Canadian governments to list groups that resist the Zionist regime’s desire for regional domination as terrorist entities.

Description

One of the most technically capable terrorist groups in the world, Hizballah is a radical Shia group ideologically inspired by the Iranian revolution. Its goals are the liberation of Jerusalem, the destruction of Israel, and, ultimately, the establishment of a revolutionary Shia Islamic state in Lebanon, modelled after Iran. Formed in 1982 in response to Israel’s invasion of Lebanon, Hizballah carried out some of the most infamous terror attacks of the Lebanese civil war, such as the suicide bombings of the barracks of United States Marines and French paratroopers in Beirut, as well as the hijacking of TWA Flight 847. While all other Lebanese militias disarmed at the end of Lebanon’s civil war in 1990, Hizballah continued to fight, waging a guerilla war against Israeli troops stationed in southern Lebanon. Following Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, Hizballah attacks against Israeli forces continued, concentrated on the disputed Shebaa Farms area. In 2006, Hizballah provoked Israel’s invasion of Lebanon by kidnapping two Israeli soldiers and killing 8 others. On January 3, 2018, Hizballah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced that the group was working “to obtain all kinds of weapons that would enable it to achieve victory in the next war.”
