On September 19, 2018 the Canadian newspaper “Arab News” published on page 5 a poem written by Hani Al-Braghouthi, a Toronto resident who portrays himself as a Palestinian and an Arab nationalist.
A caption on a cartoon accompanied to the poem reads: “Gaza pays the price of the noble values.”
Son of Gaza
I am the son of [the city of] Gaza
Where there are resistance/struggle and noble values
I lived in the rubble
To write on it the history [date] of return
And [to use] the pen like a knife
I am the son of [the city of] Gaza
I refuse [the existence of] Zionists on my land
I do not tolerate humiliation and misery
My city [Gaza] does not accept bargaining [over the land]
In it [Gaza] there are women who embrace the resistance/struggle
[In opposition to them] in the Arab world there is a leadership
That has no plan
But to fight against those who embrace the resistance/struggle
We have men whose shoulders carry the rifle
While they [the Arab leadership] carry Zionism on their back
I am the son of Palestine from Gaza, the capital of resistance/struggle
