On May 16, 2019 IfNotNow Toronto is planning to hold a “3-hour educational and participatory workshop” titled “Ending Antisemitism: A Teach-In for Jews and Allies.”
Here are excerpts from IfNotNow Toronto’s statement on its Facebook event page:
“We absorb a lot of conflicting messages about antisemitism. As Jewish people working towards justice for all, how do we understand antisemitism and where it comes from? What do we need to know about mainstream Jewish communities and their understandings of antisemitism so we can have empathy as we move them to end their support for the occupation in Israel-Palestine?
“We know antisemitism is real and exists across the political spectrum, but how does it actually operate? How is it connected to racism and capitalism in North America and the rise of white nationalism and the far-right? How is it connected to Jewish institutional support of the occupation? How do we end antisemitism and build safety for all of our communities?
“For non-Jewish folks considering this workshop: We’re inviting those who consider themselves to be in close relationships with Jewish people and/or Jewish communities. Thank you for being allies in the fight to end antisemitism…
“In this 3-hour educational and participatory workshop, we will explore these questions together. Join us in reflection and discussion. A light dinner will be provided…
IfNotNow is a movement led by young Jews united to end the North American Jewish community’s support for the occupation, and fighting for a future of freedom and dignity for all Palestinians and Israelis. For more information, visit facebook.com/ifnotnowtoronto.”
