On March 16, 2026, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center issued the following statement:

These signs, displayed yesterday at Bathurst and Sheppard in the heart of Toronto’s Jewish community, depict contemptuous and clearly antisemitic caricatures used for the sole purpose of dehumanizing Jews.

This is part of the systemic and sustained wilful promotion of hate targeting Jews in Canada, and it comes at a time when Jewish institutions, including synagogues, are being targeted.

Section 319(2) of the Criminal Code makes the wilful promotion of hatred against an identifiable group a crime.

FSWC has filed a complaint with @TorontoPolice, who are now investigating.

Week after week, for far too long, hateful protesters have been allowed to spew antisemitic vitriol on this street corner. The line has been crossed repeatedly. Toronto Police must lay charges. The Crown must prosecute. And the courts must make clear that promoting antisemitic hate on our streets has consequences.

A man is holding a large sign that says “Has Iran stopped?” Above it is an exaggerated caricature of a bearded man in ultra-Orthodox Jewish attire, complete with sidelocks and a black hat, depicted in a mocking and dehumanizing style.

The poster shows a grotesque caricature resembling Benjamin Netanyahu, featuring a bald head, large hooked nose, and a screaming mouth, with tears or sweat. He is wearing a blue-and-white kippah and formal attire while holding a small American flag. Rockets fly towards him. The bold text at the top reads, “HELP US, DADDY!” suggesting a mocking plea for U.S. intervention.

A man is holding a sign with a rusty Star of David in the center. Inside the star, there’s a dark illustration of rats. The imagery is inflammatory and antisemitic, linking the Star of David, a symbol of Judaism, with rats—a dehumanizing trope used in Nazi propaganda.

On March 16, 2026, Toronto Police stated on X:

We are aware of antisemitic signs displayed at a demonstration this weekend at Bathurst and Sheppard. Hate Crime Unit investigators are consulting with the Ministry of the Attorney General regarding promotion of hatred offences under the Criminal Code.
