Palestinian Youth Movement “honouring the critical role of Palestinian prisoners in our fight for national liberation”

, , Comments Off on Palestinian Youth Movement “honouring the critical role of Palestinian prisoners in our fight for national liberation”

On March 24, 2026, the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) issued the following statement:

Today, over 9000 Palestinians political prisoners are held in israeli prisons, where they face starvation, torture, and the systematic denial of their basic rights. At the same time, the zionist state is advancing legislation that would allow for the mass execution of prisoners, further escalating and deepening already brutal and inhumane conditions. Palestinian Prisoners historically have always been a compass in our struggle and their freedom is a fundamental tether to our liberation.

In a moment like this, our responsibility is clear, our commitment must only grow stronger. It is more urgent than ever that we organize and act to confront this reality.

Join us for Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, a day that centers imprisoned Palestinians at the heart of our struggle. In our effort to carry their fight forward, the Palestinian Youth Movement will host an educational exhibit in Toronto aiming to reflect on the history of the prisoner’s movement, highlighting its significance, and honouring the critical role of Palestinian prisoners in our fight for national liberation.

Note: The vast majority of the 9,000 Palestinian security prisoners are convicted terrorists or members of designated terrorist organizations (Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, PFLP, etc.). They are imprisoned for:

  • Murder, attempted murder, bombings, stabbings, shootings, and rocket attacks that deliberately targeted civilians.
  • Planning or supporting operations like suicide bombings during the Second Intifada or the October 7, 2023, massacre (1,200 killed, hostages taken).
  • Affiliation with groups whose charters explicitly call for Israel’s destruction and jihad against Jews.
