On Sunday, May 16, 2021 hundreds attended the “All Out for Palestine – Hamilton Rally” in support of the Palestinians during the war between Israel and a coalition of Palestinian terrorist organizations led by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. The rally that took place in front of Hamilton City Hall was hosted by Independent Jewish Voices Hamilton and Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights – McMaster.

Before the event the organizers issued the following statement:

A concerned coalition of students has put together a rally to condemn the latest Israeli brutalization of Palestinians taking place all across Palestine. McMaster SPHR pledges its support and calls upon the community to do the same. All out for Palestine! All out against the occupation! Say NO to Israeli occupation and commemorate 73 years of Palestinian ongoing resistance to the ongoing Nakba together on May 16th at 4pm at Hamilton City Hall. Take a stand for Al-Aqsa, Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, Gaza and all of Palestine together, as the Palestinians on the ground are demanding. The Canadian government’s complicity in Israeli war crimes must end!

At the end of the rally protesters burned the flag of Israel chanting in Arabic “We’ll sacrifice our blood and soul for Palestine.”

The flag of Israel was adopted on 28 October 1948, five months after the establishment of the State of Israel. It depicts a blue hexagram on a white background, between two horizontal blue stripes.

The blue stripes are intended to symbolize the stripes on a tallit, the traditional Jewish prayer shawl. The Star of David is a widely acknowledged symbol of the Jewish people and of Judaism. In Judaism, the colour blue symbolises God’s glory, purity and gevurah (God’s severity) The White field represents Chesed (Divine Benevolence).
