On May 6, 2019 the Canadian Arab Federation issued a statement on the latest round of violence between Israel and Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and other armed Palestinian groups:
The Canadian Arab Federation condemns the escalation of violence and loss of lives and assets in Gaza. It notes that the violence is rooted in a malignant occupation with no end in sight. Gaza is an open air prison and increasingly recognized by the United Nations as an area that is no longer a livable place.
We are saddened by our government quick and one sided condemnation of the Palestinians forgetting the hundreds dead and thousands wounded as Gazans continue to protest their occupation unarmed and on their side of the fence.
The most effective way to end the violence is for Canada and the international community to work together to end the occupation and put an end to the continued daily humiliation of the people under occupation.
