Toronto police say they are investigating after shots were fired at a North York synagogue Monday night. Around 10:50 p.m., officers received reports of gunshots being fired at a synagogue near Bayview Avenue and Highway 401, Toronto police spokesperson Stephanie Miceli said in an email. Officers found evidence of gunfire and damage to the synagogue, which CBC News has identified as Temple Emanu-El… No one was injured, police said in a social media post. Police said they didn’t yet have suspect descriptions available.
On March 3, 2026, Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, issued the following statement on X:
Last night’s shooting at Temple Emanu-El Synagogue in North York was a vile and targeted act of antisemitism, an attack not only on a place of worship, but on the safety and dignity of Ontario’s Jewish community. Antisemitism has no place in our province. We will not tolerate hate, intimidation or violence against any community. We stand firmly with our Jewish neighbours and will always defend their right to gather, worship and live openly and safely in Ontario.
On March 3, 2026, Toronto Mayor, Olivia Chow, issued the following statement on X:
The overnight shooting at Temple Emanu-El Synagogue in North York is an unacceptable act of antisemitism and intimidation. We will not tolerate antisemitic hate in our city. Toronto Police are investigating and will increase their presence in the area to keep the community and congregants safe. Toronto’s Jewish community has the right to practice their faith without fear, intimidation or violence. As we have seen repeatedly, incidents increase across our city as international events unfold. I want to be clear: it is never acceptable to target faith communities or cultural groups.
