On September 24, 2017 the Canadian Egyptian and Arab community in Montreal, Quebec held events mourning the death of Mohammed Mahdi Akef, a former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood movement.
Here is the text of the invitation to the events:
May the Peace, the Mercy and the Blessings of Allah be bestowed upon you. The heroic warrior Muhammad Mahdi Akef is in the protection of Allah. At the generous initiative of his friend the Hajj Ali Nuitou [senior activist of the Muslim Brotherhood], the Egyptian Canadian House and the Egyptian Revolutionary Council have the honour to invite you to the prayer of the absent on the soul of the martyr [Mahdi Akef] on Sunday, September 24, after the noon prayer at Al-Rawda Mosque in Montreal. Condolence meeting [will take place] on Sunday, September 24, after Maghrib prayer at 7 pm at the Laurencian Social Center, 12265 Boulevard Laurentien H4K 1N5, Québec, Montréal.
This is the text of Al-Hajj Ali Nuitu’s invitation: “May Allah have mercy on you and forgive you… my brother and companion Mr. Mohammed Mahdi Akef. He lived as a hero of Egypt and Palestine and died for the sake of Allah a mujahid [jihad warrior] and a symbol of steadfastness and resistance to the oppression and tyranny in Egypt… I Invite all members of the Arab and Islamic community to join us in the prayer of the absent and receive solace in this hero mujahid [jihad warrior], whom we consider a martyr…”
The prayer of the absent mourning Mahdi Akef’s death was delivered by Sheikh Ahmed Kandil, the President of Quebec Council of Imams in 2017.

Here are excerpts from Mahdi Akef’s statements on the Jews and the jihad against the Jews/ Zionists/ Israelis during his tenure as the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood:
October 29, 2009 – “The obligatory jihad is not only the duty of regimes or the duty of armed organizations in Palestine, it is also the duty of the whole [Muslims] nation… The Muslim Brotherhood will continue to remind the [Muslim] nation, the entire [Muslim] nation, rulers, politicians, media personalities, intellectuals, scholars, and the general public, of the sacred duty to liberate Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
July 23, 2009 – “The character of the Jews is to break the covenants and breach the agreements, they cannot be trusted.”
February 5, 2009 – “The peoples of our [Muslim] nation… should be united with a deep faith in the truthfulness of its faith [Islam]… and united under… [the goal of] liberation of the sanctities from of the filth of Zionist gangs.”
January 15, 2009 – “The Muslim Brotherhood calls upon the entire Muslim Nation [Ummah] to join the jihad and help their brothers, the steadfast mujahideen [jihad warriors] in Gaza.”
December 4, 2008 – “May our constant prayers be that Allah helps /gives victory to the oppressed Muslims in Palestine, lifts the siege on them, and may Allah help/give victory to them against the Jews and those who follow them.”
October 23, 2008 – “And to our Muslim peoples we say… confronting tyranny needs, above all, jihadist education that produces types of mujahideen [jihad warriors] who love death as people love life.”
July 31, 2008 – “O Muslim Brotherhood… We are sure that our enemies are aware of the greatness of your call to Islam [dawah].. and that its soldiers are the only ones capable of overpowering the Jews and defeating them… The jihad in the path of Allah is the only way to recover our rights.”
May 8, 2008 – “The intifada [uprising/war against Israel] continues. This is jihad, a victory or death in the path of Allah.”
April 17, 2008 – “O Muslims, you have the right to support the Mujahideen [jihad warriors] everywhere… Allah knows that we wish to carry out the jihad with our money and souls alongside the Mujahideen [jihad warriors]. Our motto is: Jihad is our way, and death for the sake of Allah is our highest wish.”
April 14, 2005 – “The continued support of the Mujahideen [jihad warriors] in Palestine and in other lands of Islam, and reminding constantly the importance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque… all these steps along the way are inevitable as the victory comes without doubt, this is the promise of our Lord.”
April 17, 2004 – “The Jihad is the culmination of Islam, and it is a duty that will continue to the Day of Resurrection.”
