On May 11, 2021 the Canadian Council Of Imams issued the following “Statement Regarding the AI-Aqsa Raid”:
The Canadian Council of Imams condemns the repeated attacks by Israeli forces on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem which has resulted in the injury of hundreds of worshippers.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in the Islamic faith and dear to the heart of every Muslim. The egregious attacks on the AI-Aqsa Mosque worshippers and the destruction of its property by Israeli forces are unconscionable. We demand that the Canadian government condemns these specific attacks in no uncertain terms.
The Canadian Council of Imams (CCI) also denounces the mass displacement of Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, which lies at the core of the recent instability. The usage of illegal or quasi legal means to expel Palestinian families from their homes, in order to replace them with Jewish settlers, is a clear example of demographic manipulation and ethnic cleansing.
The Canadian Council of Imams calls on the Canadian government and political leaders of all stripes to specifically demand an end to Israel’s illegal evictions of Palestinians, demolitions of Palestinian homes and theft of Palestinian land. Peace and stability will never be achieved as long as injustice towards the Palestinians persists.
